WestPoint

A lab/retriever mix, WestPoint started his career with the Canine Companions for Independence organization (New York State USA). GEN Nicholson raised him as a puppy for this important program that provides highly trained assistance dogs to vets with physical or emotional disabilities. WestPoint was in the puppy program during the COVID lockdown living with the General in Langley VA. Following the end of the lockdown he was returned to the Canine Companions campus to enter his formal training as an assistant dog, which was a sad day but he was doing his duty.

However, during the lockdown period he seems to have become emotionally attached to GEN Nicholson, suffered from extreme separation anxiety and was unable to properly concentrate on his training program. As a result, the program had to make the hard decision to pull him out of the training and put WestPoint up for adoption. He was able to return back to his home with GEN Nicholson.

Canine Companions bid him goodbye saying he had not qualified for the training program because "he had already found his soldier."

WestPoint lives in Abu Dhabi, where he is a valued member of his local community and provides daily support to the Nicholson MacDonald Group.
